I saw the wips of this one. The body is really well drawn with its shades. The figure itself seems a little stiff. City and Ocean look a little fast made, but all in all enjoyable!

IMO, the Beb's version is not a tribute at all but simply a color edit plus some very slight adjustments in AntiAliasing, vast majority of the pixels are exactly at the same place. Without knowing extra infos or having WIPs to look at, I'd say Beb could have only tweaked the Mermaid's version palette. Thus making the thing not really interesting be it technically or artistically.

Redrawing something implies at the very least that you may gather and use some pixel skills, this is certainly not original but it proves that you can go technical.
