Very possible, although after a bit more examination I'm starting to think he applied a generic sharpen filter. Always a bad idea in my opinion.

Aliasing issues makes me wondering if some parts were rendered rather than painted..

I love Weedlog's concepts. He has talent in all areas, except that he needs to make his shading more subtle and less blotchy.

The composition is very well done, nice colours, nice idea, so it's such a shame the shading technique falls short.

This looks more like something from recent years. That faux-painted style is the big trend these days so I guess Animal was well ahead of his time.

This brings back so many memories of frustration, anger and misery from my own game-making days. It's such a painstaking process and full of technical setbacks.

I don't want to write incorrect info, AFAIK it's a trick on VDC (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MOS_Technology_8563 ) the additional C128-only graphic chip operating next to VIC II, the picture features more shades of greys than would be normally possible. The trick itself was hard or impossible to reproduce on emulators at the time of the demo release. I'll try to dig online more info but authors' speech would be best.

Uhm, well.. It is a portrait of our cat, her name is Mimi.. and the japanese way of being polite to dignitaries (royalty etc) is adding "sama" after their name... Hence the name.. Mimi-sama...

The picture was scetched up in photoshop, once I got done with adjusting proportions (like larger eyes, smaller nose and some headshape I continued in promotion. Which I admit - suck at.. Terrible palette and ranges.

Since I did it from scratch for about 4+12 hours right up til the compo deadline. I didn't have enough time to complete the "pixel-wash" that I intended to cover the entire image. The owl pic in the gallery has a little bit of that feel.
