I agree. This palette feels "weird". I assume you get that when you turn up contrast, brightness and saturation on your TV screen very much.

But c64 palette depends on saturation, brightness and contrast settings on attached monitor ;P
colors are ok (if someone want to choose that bright, saturated variant)
you can use grayscale too
Imo problem is that so popular "pepto palette" is kind of washed away
