my instincts say it's a edited scanned image. he certainly did a lot of work in hair and eyes but look at the perfect antialiasing around the letter Q (attention to non-mono coloring in antialiasing, this phenomenon occurs in scanned images) and compare it with rather bad antialiasing in fame'97 sign (attention to mono-coloring in antialiasing). perhaps he signed it in a hurry, i'm not sure.
