God damn it, I want to learn to dither like that.. =) I hate my stupid checker board dithering, makes my pics look noisy.

bracket: here is a dithering patterns thread, mostly theoretical but it might help http://www.wayofthepixel.net/pixelation/index.php?topic=2008.0

this picture seems badly resized by the server, i cannot see the dithering well due to smoothing. original is probably smaller. this dithering technique is first used by the master UNO/Scoopex and it's about the balance of the stains in well chosen degrading palette.

Anarkhya: thanks, but that's not exactly what i ment.. i guess texturing is the thing i was meaning.. found this which is about it partly: http://www.exotica.org.uk/mirrors/gfxzone/articles/goblin_pixelling_tutorial-article.html it guess that's a thing you have to learn and figure out yourself..

kris: second this, unfortunately, I don't have infos on Optic (except few lines on scenery) I don't even know if he was an amigascener. So I cant' locate the release to capture a better output.
First used by Uno? which Uno's pictures are you thinking of?
Bracket: Thats right, I tend to think dither-smoothing when one say dithering but in fact this is most of the time dither-texturing that people refer to.
To learn and figure out yourself? Well this place is full of pattern examples but yes, I think knowing and applying could be 2 different stories

@Anarkhya : I met Optic in person when he was working at Eurocom in UK ten years go. He was a TRSI member from Norway.
Yes, texturing is a more correct term.
Some examples from Uno:

kris: Ok, I got it, as the stunner pic comes from 1991, Uno may have been the first.
bracket: I'll also mention this article by Rufferto^Essence about dither history in ROM diskmag #1 (1994) http://img824.imageshack.us/img824/9223/ditherhistorybyrufferto.png

Kris: Din't know you were at Eurocom, too... Visited Optic, Boo and GFX-Twins over there in Derby, too and even got into the realms of Eurocom until I was kindly asked to leave due to security reasons
Optic has also been a member of Talent, by the way.

Yeah, this is badly resized. I will try to find the original, and see if it can be replaced.
