Job: graphician
Survey submitted: Sun 25 Apr 2010
Handle, ex-handle(s):
nero
Name, birthday, origin:
Rainer Mühr, NA, Germany
Group, ex-group(s):
STILL & LKCC
ex-Sunflower, ex-Matrix, ex-Artwork
What was your first group, your role in that group and what did that group produce?:
Ethic, graphician, some small intros and a slideshow, Convention ´96, not much was produced but it was a great time anyway
What motivates you to spend time on the scene?:
Doing stuff together with some long term friends and producing something
What is your favorite color?:
black
On what platform(s) did you begin your computing journey, and when was this?:
on Amiga - watching since 1991, active since 1993/1994
What platform(s) do you use now?:
Mac/PC
What is/are your favorite piece(s) of music(s) - from a demo production or a scener (released outside of a demo)?:
Well can´t remember everything most of the older stuff from Groo, Yolk/Crankshaft, Legend, Chromag, Virgill, Radix and Supernao; for the last years: stuff from Ronny, Mad, Sire, Puryx, Little Bitchard and especially Kschzt/MD
Which graphician, in and outside the demoscene, inspirated you the most?: inside:
Ra, Niko, Made, Cyclone and Helge. outside: Bill Sienkewicz, Simon Bisley, Craig Mullins and Ashley Wood
What is/are your favorite picture(s) - from a demo production or a scener (released outside of a demo)?:
at this moment: "LifeCreatesBuildings" by Ra. Adore this great balance between roughness and elaboration
What's the procedure when you start a new picture?:
at the moment I have a rather nonlinear approach: starting from scratch, paint a lot and discard a lot I know the results would look better if a bit more control would be present, but it´s still a hobby, so...
What drawing/3d program are you using the most to express yourself? Why?:
Photoshop. Because everybody around me used it - not because of careful evaluation.
Do you draw on any other platforms beside computers? (Painting, Graffiti etc):
from time to time: sketches on paper
Which project that you worked on was the most exciting and interesting for you? And why?:
The Fulcrum. Not because of the result (even though I still like the intro) but because of great teamplay with great people
What is your favorite demo, intro, megademo, retrogame, slideshow, musicdisk, diskmag, wilddemo?:
demos: TE-2RB, Square and everything from Destop
intros: Hplus and Bakkslide7
mags: Raw8 and 9, the new Zine
Discuss: minimalistic demos, cracktros, fucktros, joke demos, lamers, compo winners at big parties, demotools, diskmags, chiptunes, glenz vectors, programming languages, photoshop, textmode:
Some slow forms give great results but don´t fit usual competitions because of their extensive character such as e.g. Chimera. I don´t care much about fun productions, even though everybody should release what he likes no matter what the audience expects from him. The trouble starts when you expect a reward for your work - if you do: do something else.
What percentage of modern demos are 3d flybys?:
I do not care.
What percentage of older demos are the same effects recycled?:
I do not care. Are there "new" effects anyway? Very, very rarely. There won´t be more than 5 releases a year if this would become a rule I guess...
What platform(s) needs more demos?:
I do not care.
Which parties do you intend to go to, and which parties would you like to go to? Please describe your personal experiences with your most favourite or impressive party you have ever been at:
I would like to visit Evoke and TUM someday. Most impressive: First Symposium (96) was nice, most impressive: I think TP 93 because it was my first one (the older the more golden I guess).
How did the scene alter since you are taking an active part in it? Can you explain why?:
More friendly competition and more sophisticated on the technical side. Why? Well, the scene seems to become older and a bit smaller since the early days while the people got more professional experience on the other hand.
What are your dreams/goals in life, did scene help you and have you achieved them yet?:
Yes it did. I think to work hard to reach some deadline or achieve a specific quality level. Also: to balance a team with interdisplinary participants and different characters.
Finally, do you have some special greetings? Feel free to add links to your graphics, screenshots of effects, modules or other pieces of your work:
Nope.
